About MeMy name is Agnieszka "Angela" Hugle. I am a certified birth doula (Childbirth International, trained with CAPPA), certified Hypnobabies Hypno-Doula, certified postpartum doula, placenta encapsulator, breastfeeding counselor (currently working towards certification with CBI) and photographer (working towards certification with New York Institute of Photography). I am a woman, a mother, a military spouse, a daughter, a granddaughter, a sister, a friend.
I am originally from Poland and lived in Germany for half of my life. This is where I met my husband and married in 2003. Why did I become a labor and birth doula?
In 2007, after many years of waiting, I became pregnant. Our daughter was a miracle baby, and I knew that I wanted to have a natural birth. I started researching my options and was quite shocked to learn about what happened to woman and baby centered birth. I knew that what I wanted was different.
Couple weeks before the birth of my daughter, I learned about doulas. I looked at the statistics and learned about how doulas can improve the birth experience. My husband and I talked to several birth doulas and finally decided to hire one. Our daughter was born in 2008 at Evans Army Community Hospital with a doula and a certified nurse midwife present. The birth was a truly amazing and empowering experience. It was an unmedicated, vaginal hospital birth that forever changed my life as a woman, wife, and as a person. Because of my own birth experience and the support I received from my doula, I want to share my knowledge and support women and families through this life-changing event. I believe that every woman deserves the caring, non-judgmental, and continuous support from another woman experienced and knowledgeable in childbirth. Why did I become a postpartum doula?
Three months after we came home with our "bundle of joy", my husband left home for a ten-month long assignment. Lack of sleep, loneliness, and burnout quickly lead to postpartum depression.
Sadly, I learned about the lack of education and postpartum support available to new moms. As I slowly recovered, I learned about postpartum doulas and how their support can lessen the occurrence of burnout, postpartum depression, etc. I want to share my personal experience and my professional knowledge and care with other women and families. My birth philosophy
I believe that....
...birth is a very natural and a sacred process that needs to be cherished, protected, and respected. ...birth is not an illness and should not be treated this way. ...birth can be an empowering and positive experience if the woman takes control in the labor and birthing process. ...a woman should have the right to experience the birth she desires, may it be in a hospital, birth center or at home. May it be with medical pain relief or without. ...informed consent is a must. A woman should have all information to make decisions right for her and the baby. ...education, comforting hands, positive attitude, and a safe environment are the key points in experiencing an empowering birth.
